Since the 1920s until his death in 1985, Big Joe Turner has been one of the most renown Blues, Boogie Woogie, Big Band, Jump Blues and Rhythm and Blues singers.
From the Kansas City duo with his long time partner, Boogie Woogie pianist Pete Johnson at Piney Brown's The Sunset Club to the John H. Hammond/a>'s Carnegie Hall "From Spirituals to Swing" concerts in 1938, form Duke Ellington's revue "Jump for Joy"in Hollywood in 1941, to the Apollo Theater with the Count Basie Orchestra ten years later, when he signed for Ahmet and Nesuhi Ertegün's Atlantic Records, Turner gained himself fame as one of the leading Blues shouters and of a Rock and Roll forerunner.
