DO YOU REMEMBER THE SKIFFLE?

Do you remember Lonnie Donegan?
I must have been about 10 years old when I first heard about Skiffle and about Lonnie Donegan. I was in boarding school in Switzerland were I had a french tutor, Mr. Delagneau, who hated Rock 'n Roll and loved Jazz instead. I guess the only non straight Dixieland album he owned bust have been the one by this guy, Lonnie Donegan & his Skiffle Group, featuring this funny song, "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavour (On The Bedpost Over Night)" which he made me listen to once. Indeed it wasn't Rock and Roll nor Rockabilly, but I kinda liked it anyway.
Years passed until I heard of Lonnie Donegan again. When I first made it to England in my teens he was outfashioned so there wasn't much of him around and I wouldn't even think about the man.

It was in the seventies that I found out about his story, form his debuts with Ken Coyler (see the photograph above) and Chris Barber to his big success in the UK during the late '50s, and so I bought myself some of his albums. The music was fresh spontaneous, enjoyable, if even it may sound out of date now.
A few days ago I ran ito a few videos of him on YouTube, and decided to write this post. Ladeis and gents, enjoy...
