THE WHO:
The early years
I was a teen in 1965 when I read in a French music magazine called "Salut les Copains" about the new British bands. That's when I first heard about Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle and Keith Moon: The Who.
At the time I was a teen full of pimples and complexes, dying for Rock music and eager to show off. Italy was an incredibly backwards place, musically speaking, Italian radio and record companies would delay introduction of non-Italian music to protect their market. So French radio and magazines where my main source of information. And quite a god one, I must say.
I was 17 and starting to go out to clubs were Italian bands would cover English and American songs, and buying the few records of English Beat (that's how it was called then) there was to find.
It was only in 1967 I could buy The Who's first albums. I remember I felt very impressed when I first heard "My Generation", It felt like Roger Daltrey was talking about me... I also was impressed by the band's lineup. Groups featuring a lead singer and only one guitarist were quite rare then, and I was amazed by the full sound they managed to create.
Well, more than forty years later, I decided to hommage to these guys who made me feel understood rather than the weird guy I thought I was...
So here they are, ladies and gentlemen, THE WHO!
