A Bluegrass Surprise
I dislike the person as I've seen him in the movies, and I always disliked his movies, but I must admit he caught me by surprise when I first saw these videos. I love that kind of music and that made him gain a bit of my esteem.
Yes, it's Steve Martin, the actor, here performing "Loch Lomond/Sally Ann Medley" at "The Muppet Show". Apart from acting, he plays bluegrass banjo, and he plays it good!
And here he's on stage with Earl Scruggs and Paul Schaffer, performing Scruggs classic, "Foggy Mountain Breakdown".
And here again, he's at the "David Letterman Show", on 4/26/07, with Tony Trischka and Béla Fleck. The song is called "the Crow" and is written by Steve Martin. It can be found on Tony Trischka's new "Double Banjo album.
Man, I had a chance to jam with Fleck many years ago, and he really made me feel like a pigmy.
Here he plays another Scruggs' classic, "Earl's Breakdown", with "Roger McGuinnn, the former leader of the Byrds, and the Rock Bottom Remainders.
In this video, the title says it all. It's a homage to "Diane Kenton, the actress.
And we'll finish as we started, with another appearance at "The Muppet Show", playing a tune called "Rambling Guy". Maybe you'll understand why I dislike him as an actor: he seems phony to me.
And... That's all folks!
